The Asics Megablast is easily the best Asics road shoe I’ve tested to date. It finally gives runners what we’ve been asking for, a true super trainer that can handle everything exceptionally well, from recovery runs to upbeat tempo sessions, and even long efforts.
With its new FF TURBO²™ (A-TPU) midsole and an efficient rocker geometry, the Megablast delivers the bounce and propulsion of a plated shoe without actually using a plate.
It’s part of Asics’ new Tokyo Collection, a lineup that celebrates the city’s vibrant running culture and showcases the brand’s latest performance tech.
At 7.7 oz (218 g), the Megablast feels crazy lightweight for its massive stack height.
The combination of cushioning, stability, and smooth energy return makes it feel like you’re floating with every stride, it’s the kind of shoe that makes you want to keep running just because it feels so good.

Breathability is excellent, and the mesh keeps feet cool even on long runs in warm weather.

Performance review
This is where the Megablast shines brighter than any other super trainer, right now. It’s a rare example of a shoe that truly does it all, very well.
Ride and feel
The FF TURBO²™ foam is the star here.

It feels firm when pressed by hand but comes alive underfoot with a highly energetic rebound.
There’s an immediate pop when you toe off, and the rocker geometry makes each stride feel fluid and natural.
Whether I’m landing midfoot or slightly toward the heel, the forward roll feels powerful, as if plated, propelling me effortlessly into the next stride.
Despite the tall 45 mm stack, the Megablast feels remarkably stable, catering well to runners with a neutral gait, and underpronators alike.
The wide base and firmer A-TPU compound keep it controlled through corners and during tempo efforts.
The midsole cushioning absorbs impact beautifully without feeling mushy, and transitions are smooth and consistently poppy, no matter the pace.
Versatility
True versatility is what makes the Megablast so special, in my eyes.

It’s equally happy cruising through easy recovery runs, steady long runs, or tempo sessions up to half-marathon pace.
It’s light and lively enough to double as a tempo shoe but cushioned enough for marathon training mileage. I can’t think of another Asics shoe that blends those categories as naturally as the Megablast.

Comfort and stability
The comfort is superb, that sweet spot between plush and responsive. There’s none of that over-soft “marshmallow” feeling that can dull your stride, on some foams.
Instead, the Megablast feels balanced and confident, giving me a sense of control even when tired.

The rocker design and lightweight geometry, keeps turnover quick and cadence high, especially on longer efforts when efficiency matters.
Traction and durability

The ASICSGRIP™ outsole performs well on both dry and wet roads.
There’s a fair amount of exposed foam to save weight, and this is the only area that I am concerned with in terms of durability, so I’ll keep an eye on wear and tear over time, but so far, it's holding up well.
The sound of the midsole on pavement, that rhythmic tap-tap, adds to the lively character of the shoe.

Overall experience
Running in the Megablast feels genuinely joyful.
It’s light, springy, and efficient, with just the right amount of protection and firmness underfoot.
It’s not a soft cruiser, nor a harsh racer, it’s the perfect middle ground, and for runners who dislike carbon plates but still want that super-shoe energy return, this is exactly what you deserve on your feet.
My verdict
The Asics Megablast is the most complete road running shoe Asics has released in years.

It blends the bounce of a racer, the comfort of a daily trainer, and the protection of a high-stack cruiser, all in a lightweight, breathable package.
It’s not cheap at $225, and the exposed-foam sections could affect long-term durability (and hence value), but the ride quality, versatility and enjoyment you'll get out of running in them, more than justifies the price.
For me, it’s earned a permanent spot in my rotation and a place in my following roundups:
If you’re after a single do-it-all shoe that makes every run feel smooth, fast, and fun, the Megablast over delivers.
It’s one of those rare shoes that simply makes running feel easy, like you’re gliding rather than working.
